In April 2021, the Latrobe Health Assembly launched it’s Triple Diamond operating model (shown below). Designed to encourage collaboration on refined areas of opportunity, the Triple Diamond operating model has provided the organisation with a sophisticated approach to co-create innovative programs with community to test and pilot in the Latrobe Valley.
The Latrobe Health Assembly’s Triple Diamond operating model is an advanced framework used to guide the ideation and development process in innovation and design. It expands on the Double Diamond model, which includes the stages of Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. The Triple Diamond model adds an extra layer to ensure that outcomes are promoted locally, nationally and internationally. Here’s a detailed description of each stage in the Triple Diamond model:
We begin with our ‘Perceived Challenge’. Our ‘Perceived Challenge’ is the general topic that we are going to explore. This ‘Perceived Challenge’ could come to us from various sources including:
- Health providers/organisations
- Our Assembly membership
- Direct from community members
The ‘Perceived Challenge’ is an assumption of what is happening in our community, it is not yet a fully researched topic.
- Discover:
- Goal: Gain a clear understanding of the ‘Perceived Challenge’.
- Activities: Conduct extensive research to gather insights about the needs of the people affected. This includes interviews, surveys, and data analysis.
- Output: A broad understanding of the problem and potential areas of opportunity.
- Define:
- Goal: Clearly articulate the problem to be solved.
- Activities: Analyse research findings to pinpoint the core issues and define the scope of the project.
- Develop:
- Goal: Generate a wide range of ideas and potential solutions.
- Activities: Engage in brainstorming sessions, design thinking workshops, and other creative processes to explore different solutions. This stage encourages divergent thinking.
- Output: A diverse set of ideas and concepts that address the defined problem.
- Refine:
- Goal: Evaluate and narrow down the ideas to the most viable and impactful ones.
- Activities: Use criteria such as feasibility, desirability, and viability to assess the ideas. This may involve prototyping, user testing, and stakeholder feedback.
- Output: A shortlist of refined ideas that are ready for further development.
- Implement:
- Goal: Develop and execute the chosen solution/s.
- Activities: Detailed design, development, and testing of the solution/s. This includes creating detailed plans, prototypes, and final products or services.
- Output: A fully developed solution/s ready for launch or implementation.
- Launch:
- Goal: Introduce the solution/s to the intended participants.
- Activities: Execute the launch plan, including marketing, distribution, and user onboarding. Monitor the initial rollout to gather feedback and make any necessary adjustments.
- Output: A launched solution with initial user adoption and feedback.
- Evaluate:
- Goal: Assess the impact and effectiveness of the solution.
- Activities: Collect and analyse data on the solution’s performance, user satisfaction, and overall impact. This can include surveys, usage analytics, and impact assessments.
- Output: Insights and learnings that inform future projects and iterations.
Finally, we enter the PROMOTE (half diamond). Here we tell the story, including promoting the initiative with community and sharing our learnings to other organisations.
This includes distributing outcomes from evaluations, case studies and raw data.
