An upcoming event from the Latrobe Health Assembly, in partnership with GippSport, Latrobe Community Health Service and Gippsland Region Public Health Unit, invites Latrobe Valley community members to immerse themselves in the world of movement and build the skills, knowledge and behaviours to lead physically active lives.
Exploring the concept of physical literacy, the event is part of an initiative to help all of the Latrobe Valley to understand the importance of participating in regular physical activity and to help them feel confident and empowered to do so.
“Physical literacy goes beyond just being active, it’s about knowing why and how to move, and being motivated and confident to move in different ways throughout our lives,” says Latrobe Health Assembly Chair, Tanya Rong.
“The Latrobe Health Assembly are working with community and local partners to explore opportunities for the community to build their physical literacy skills for a healthier and active life.”
The free pop-up event will be hosted at the Moe Library Forecourt, where community are invited to learn more about the initiative, and to share how they or the communities they work with could be supported to move more. This could be ideas that will assist themselves and their families, but also the community groups and workplaces they’re a part of.
The collaborating agencies will be at the event to chat with community, and the day will boast interactive activities such as GippSport’s KIDDO, Bike N’ Blend smoothie bike, a live drawing artist, Latrobe Valley Tai Chi and more! The Place To Be coffee van will be on site, so come on down, enjoy a cuppa and an afternoon of fun.
